Clone bricks, such a controversial subject!
5-13-11: Added Budget Blocks and reasonably blogged to other websites to visit
This web site is dedicated to building blocks of the non-mainstream kind. Most the content in this website is geared towards the modern military theme. Reason being, the leading building block company LEGO has no intent to ever release modern military themed sets. So if you're a purist and looking for LEGO, then look elsewhere because this site probably isn't for you. There are more than plenty enough sites and reviews dedicated to the Danish building block LEGO. If however, you're open to exploring building blocks from around the world, then you're one of the very few who appreciate the art of building blocks . This site doesn't descriminate!
The following web pages include my personal collection and review on various sets and building block companies, as well as links to other indiviuals who have their own set reviews. There are many references to company and product information here. Other links include official toy and company sites to purchase sets as well as website venders who market those products
For true LEGO purist, if you feel this page is a waste of your time, and you need to exit this page, please click here for a LEGO related page!
Thank you for visiting!
Being an artistic and creative individual , I love to draw, paint, build with wood, and create sculptures with clay. It's just in my blood to build and create!
For the past few years, I've just focused on a specific way to express my art and creativity. I've took the hobby of building blocks as a form of art work.
I've been introduced to the building block LEGO since I can remember. At the age of six, I've got quite a few LEGO sets for birthdays and Holidays; mostly space and town sets. Not too long after that, I had my exposure to TYCO SUPER BLOCKS on those kid commercials, and aquired a few sets before they retired. Thoughout my childhood, I continued on to LEGO, until the age of 13. At the age of 17 and 18, I started to collect and build again then stopped. From the age of 20, I became a train-head, and really got into LEGO again. I've been on it since that point forward.
With the exception of TYCO SUPER BLOCKS, my other exposure to any clone brick was MEGA BLOKS. I came across a Tank building set #9707 that caught my attention. I didn't pay attention to the manufacturer MEGA BLOKS, but I just had to buy the set because I need a tank to add to my collection! It had over 300 pieces for ten bucks!
After building it, the set just sat around for a few months until I decided to just give it away for specific reasons that I'll describe in my review. After that incident, I didn't get involved with any clone building blocks until 2008.....
Being a tank-head, my openess to "non-puristism" began on october 2008 starting with Best-Lock when I found a military set for a great price that I just couldn't refuse. From that point I started experiencing different sets and companies including Enlighten, Sluban, Kazi, Cobi, and Oxford.
Clone building blocks are a good alternative where people in poor countries can afford them as opposed to not being able to afford anything at all. As long as competition exist, there won't be a monopoly. Competion keeps prices low, and people have the freedom of choice to choose where they want to buy, not just limited to one company or manufacturer. Here's an example:
screws, nuts and bolts
Get the idea?
On the other hand, there are companies that sell counterfeit rip-off products that deceive buyers into believing they bought the legitimate product. In turn it hurts the real company and steals their profits. As long as there's a logo and some discrepancies that differenciates the two companies or products, people should do their homework and as a result, won't get ripped off.
